BreakScore® FAQs ![]()

Card and rule 'interpretations' will inevitably arise from time to time. If the 'interpretation' is disputed consult the rules. If the 'interpretation' is not covered, follow the highest ranked player's ruling. Otherwise 'interpretations' are decided by vote. If the vote is tied, flip a coin to immediately decide and then email us for a definitive future ruling! NB: The one sure thing is things aren't always as they seem in BreakScore®!
Card-play I zapped a friend back onto a void. On her next turn, to get out of the void, she used the zouch card "If you land on a void, advance 30 points." and then landed on a zouch square and took a zouch card. Was her turn then over or could she continue it by rolling all six dice? Yes, she can roll all six dice. NB: Though card play over-rules board play, it isn't meant to be instead of board play! Do
you recommend always taking a card? Mostly but not always. There are a number of
situations where I think carefully first. E.g. with three zouch cards left and I know one
of them is a miss-a-turn card. Another is if I'm close to the enzone and I roll a boomer
and and there is a risk of overshooting if I take the "Double your BreakScore®
card". The trick is to follow which cards have been taken and those that
haven't. What happens if someone stacks a card pack? This shouldn't happen. Players can cut each pack of cards before the game begins and the player who has first choice to pick a card has the last cut. Remember in BreakScore® you can push the boundaries, particularly with interpretations, but cheating is not on. If I pick the zouch card, "Next turn - If you zouch return to the start" can I choose not to roll the dice, rather than risk zouching? No. As you cannot sit on zero points you must face the possibility of zouching by having at least one roll of the dice. Still with six dice to roll, the odds of zouching are very low. When do you remind another player if they forget to use a card? Almost immediately if you are playing a beginner in a social game. Otherwise in Champ-Play where rankings are at stake, tell them when the next player has started their turn! If I zouch, do I have to give back any boomer cards taken on the same turn? No. I had the boomer card "Next turn - If you zouch, keep your BreakScore® and then take a zouch card". On my next turn I took the boomer card "Zouch - Your turn is over, do not take a zouch card". I can't take a zouch card, but can I keep my BreakScore®? No If cards of the same kind conflict, the last card taken rules. Though the 2nd boomer card has no instruction in regard to keeping your BreakScore®, a turn over is a turn over! There is no conflict, the 2nd card over-rides the 1st card, so you cannot keep your BreakScore®. I rolled a boomer and took a zouch bonus boomer card, then I rolled another boomer and took the boomer card "Zouch - Your turn is over, do not take a zouch card". Can I keep my BreakScore®? Yes. There is no conflict between the two cards: the 1st allows you to keep your BreakScore® and the 2nd doesn't over-ride that instruction. NB: There is conflict between the cards over taking a zouch card: the 1st says take one, the 2nd says don't. In this situation the 2nd card over-rides the 1st, you cannot take a zouch card. I got the boomer card "If you are zapped outside the enzone, start your next turn on 50 points." What does it mean? It means just that. Start your next turn on 50 points. You could sit there and then, or you could try to add to the 50 points by rolling all six dice. NB: Sitting might be an attractive option when you have a card with an incentive to zap another player, but not compelling if the player who zapped you, had used a similar card and had moved on .... in that case most likely, but not necessarily, I'd roll on! I rolled a boomer and then took the boomer card "Next turn - If you do not take a zouch card, miss one turn" and then later in the same turn zouched and took the zouch card "Take a break - Miss your next turn". How many turns do I miss? Two. Firstly the zouch card applies and you miss your next turn, then as you missed that turn you were unable to take a zouch card so the boomer card applies. Dice-play Can
you concede? While there is no rule to say you cannot, it's not in the spirit of
the game. If you are way behind keep a positive attitude and, if you're lucky, you might
even get the zouch card, "Advance and zap the leading player". If
you roll three dice and you get two stars, what do you usually do? Almost always
I would set aside and score both stars, as the odds of getting a boomer are better with
one dice rather than two. If
another player has to miss-a-turn is it okay to try to tempt them by handing them the
dice? Yes. If they are not alert to your cunning plan and decline the dice they
will fall have to pay the penalty for being careless! If someone rolls a dice and it lands off the table and onto the floor what happens? The dice are cocked and ALL dice just rolled must be re-rolled.
Game-play Can
a player be zapped after he's entered the enzone? Sure thing. Can you miss two turns in a row? Yes. Two examples spring to mind: If you have the boomer card 'Next turn - If you do not take a zouch card, miss one turn' and then you zouch in the same turn as you took the boomer card, and then take the zouch card 'Take a break - Miss your next turn', or you have the same boomer card and land on a miss-a-turn square in the same turn as you took the boomer card. If you are zapped back to a void, or a miss-a-turn square, do they apply to your next turn? Yes. If I am zapped back on to a zouch square, a back or forward arrow, an extra turn square is that new square activated immediately, when my turn comes around, or not at all? It depends. The zouch square, NO, you must land on one in your turn to take a card. The arrows, YES, immediately go back or forward the number of squares indicated. The extra turn square, NO, you must land on one in your turn. Is it possible to reach the enzone in one turn, and not win the game? Yes.
